If only I’d realised sooner.
I have two cats, one a big fat hairy Maine Coon and the other a dainty little Bengal girl. I had been feeding my Coon the breed-specific Royal Canin food for years (as that’s what the breeder had recommended, and I assumed she would know best) and then started on Arden Grange kitten food with my Bengal when I got her just a year and half ago. They both free-fed on dry food with some fresh cooked chicken breast as a treat a couple of times a day.I should point out that my Coon is a grumpy boy, doesn’t like much petting (and lets you know with teeth) and was always especially sensitive about being touched anywhere around his rear haunches, which I could never groom properly because he wouldn’t let me near him. I used to have to wait for him to fall asleep and try to chop out the matted bits…How is this relevant? OK. My dainty little Bengal decided she didn’t want Arden Grange – she wanted the big giant Maine Coon biscuits that barely fit in her mouth. I was worried about her choking on one so I decided it was time for a change. I read a lot online (for the first time) about cat nutrition, decided that what I had been feeding them was actually quite bad and I should feed bad, and decided to try Applaws as it was the highest meat content dry food I could find.It took them a while to get used to it, but holy jebus did I notice a difference. My Coon in particular went from having what I thought was normal slightly coarse fur to silky soft fur that I could actually groom properly. I did a big exercise getting his mats out and now he has a fantastic coat that he can mostly keep unmatted by himself, and is even friendlier now that the sore matty bits are gone. He wants more pets and attention and noticeably takes better care of his coat. He gets less angry at the other cat (I guess now that she’s not jumping on the bits he didn’t like getting touched) and has become much more mellow. My little Bengal always took great care of her coat but it developed an even better shine and softness. Now that I actually know something about cat nutrition and have seen the effects of proper nutrition for a while (OK really if you wanted to do it properly you’d feed them fresh raw meat all the time, but in terms of what is achievable vis a vis store-bought dry food), I can say with confidence that a high meat content, no grain food is a must, and Applaws is going to be the food of choice from hereon in.

I’ve tried several different wet foods for our cats and they would always leave some. Sad to see the low percentage of actual meat in those products too. Due to waste and smell we decided to swap to dry food, plus the vet said it is better for cat’s teeth (I’m a first time cat owner). This dry food is excellent. No carbohydrates as cats can’t digest them properly anyway and 80% meat, 20% vegetables. It smells like a meat product but the smell isn’t strong so doesn’t linger in the air. Our cats love it and eat it all up every time. It’s expensive but so is repeatedly buying wet food, especially if some is always wasted.Best cat food I’ve come across, and vet approved, they told me: quality food, quality cat.

Wow
A few seconds after opening the pack, my fussy, elderly, sleepy cat jumped off the sofa so fast that he forgot to retract his claws & brought his blanket to the dish with him! I’ve only given him a teeny tiny handful so far (it arrived today), but he’s wolfed it down & is now happily sound asleep without doing his usual, ‘Gonna be sick, gonna be sick!!’ routine. Also, the pellets aren’t dusty or greasy, & they’re just small enough for my old boy to manage them. I really hope this (plus the wet food, which is arriving tomorrow) helps to make his stomach more comfy. It’s expensive for me, but then so is buying (& throwing away) bowlfuls of either puked up or untouched Felix & Whiskas (I think they’ve changed their recipes). Thank god, my other cat has the constitution of cider pickled rat, & will eat anything – I would be bankrupt! 😉

Cat loves it
My cat has been eating the chicken and salmon version, but I mostly have to bribe her with one or 2 treats in the bowl then she will eat. Otherwise she will wait by her food dish and just look at me waitingThe kibbles are slightly smaller in the senior version over the chicken and salmonInitial impression: I put the new cat food in half the dish with her old food to see how she would react. She basically ignored the previous food, didn’t wait for any treats and ate this new foodCan’t speak for results yet but from previous results from the brand- her fur feels softerHappy cat, happy life

Good cat food
Very good brand of cat food, quality ingredients, and my cats both eat it. A Ragdoll and a British Shorthair as well. It really helped my British shorthairs stomach issues. This is all they eat with plenty of fresh water and we have no issues.

Sticky and Strong Smelling when wet
My girl likes it a lot. It does have quite a powerful smell if it gets wet, and also has a bit more of a Chewy / Sticky consistency to it than other Dry Cat Foods do. It’s still a Dry crunchy Kibble, but it definitely is a bit more on the soft side than others.I do have a suspicion this Kibble sticks around the teeth more easily and causes some bad breath issues due to the stickiness. Because her breath smells strongly of this kibble. I am 90% certain of this, but I’ve probably made the problem worse than it otherwise would have been because her Kibble gets wet every feeding with egg yolk, etc, etc.I’ll still give it 5 stars as it’s Top Quality ingredients at a good price, people who actually care about their pets and research ingredient lists buy food like this. A lot of people out there buy Kibble that’s literally 5% real meat content and is loaded with sugar and carbs, don’t be one of those people.

this is to supplement a pouch of Whiskers in the morning (I’ve tried him on bettermore expensive stuff but he doesn’t like it!
My 3 year old cat Max has been eating Applaws since he was a kitten, he has the dry food in his bowl all day (to graze on, he’s not a greedy cat so it often lasts for 2 days), this is to supplement a pouch of Whiskers in the morning (I’ve tried him on bettermore expensive stuff but he doesn’t like it!) and a pouch of Applaws wet (in broth) food in the evening (he has both of these split in to 2 servings each as he doesn’t wolf food down and won’t eat wet food that has been out for a while, plus little often is better for cats). He loves the Applaws dry and wet food (you can’t just feed them the Applaws wet in broth as it isn’t a complete nutrition food). He is a very healthy, lean, active, playful and loving cat, his vet always says he’s the best condition cat they see every time he goes for his check up and boosters. He has an amazing coat, no fat (just all muscle according the vet!), healthy teeth (he’s not big on treats but does like a chew on dried chicken hearts every now and then!), clear eyes and has never been ill. I can not recommend Applaws food enough. Cat’s are obligate carnivores, they shouldn’t eat much in the way of complex carbohydrates as their bodies can’t process them properly and it makes them fat and causes various illnesses, most dry food’s (even Royal Canin etc) are mostly grainwheat and cats shouldn’t eat them. If your cat is overweight, suffering from repeat illness, has allergies etc please try them on Applaws food, you will see a difference in all aspects of their health (and thus their personality as an unwell cat is a grumpy and unhappy cat!)

Cat loves it, doesn’t stink like wet food does!
Unfortunately my handsome little furry guy can’t live off dry food (will have infection and blocked urethra on dry food alone). We have to feed him wet food to make sure he is getting enough water to flush his system. Unfortunately our vet tells us that wet food is causing his teeth to go bad. He suggested trying to add a handful of quality dry food each day to his diet (wet food staying as the main source) which may help clean his teeth. He does however absolutely love this stuff, and when both these are down alongside his wet food, hands down these biscuits win! If the product details are to be believed (I’ve seen nothing yet to believe otherwise) they have an excellent high percentage of meat too. I am gutted he can’t live off this stuff alone as I think this product is much healthier for his teeth and body as a whole.(Just a small tip based off our experience: Vet recommended Hills Prescription dry food to “stop” him suffering with his blocked urethra and infections. Tried the stuff (which he enjoyed a lot) but within two weeks he was back on a catheter again. Did a little research and read that plain old wet food would work better than Hills prescription food (which you don’t need a prescription for anyway, so already somewhat misleading product name). Indeed, after over a year and a half of wet food, he has not had any issues.

‘expensive’ catfood is cheaper than you think
I should only have one cat, a curmudgeonly old neutered tom, but I made the mistake of having a traditional cat flap fitted, so as a result, despite some hissing, I now have an additional four regular visitors. My own cat has a marginal general preference for wet catfood (but is fussy about brands) and would never touch the cheap supermarket branded cat biscuits. I found he would settle (at least as a supplement) for the top quality dried foods but what I now find is that these intruders generally prefer the latter. You might wonder why I should indulge the preferences of these uninvited feline visitors but the answer is largely cost and convenience. Despite the (large) packs appearing to be costly, they seem to last for ever so the effective portion cost is actually very low, far lower than sachets. I suppose the sachet contents are 80% water (fresh meat, if your cat will eat it, is not much lower) whereas the dried kibble is, I suppose, nearer 10%. I leave you to do the arithmetic. After extensive testing, my cat tasting panel votes Applaws and Origen as being preferred brands and it is perhaps no surprise that they also have, by a wide margin, the highest meat content (80% for Applaws). If you buy these specialist brands, you do need to shop around (but of course Amazon is always a good place to start).
